Dr. Kaifeng Yu, Senior Manager for the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), a non-governmental organization initiated by the Chinese utility – State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), visited the headquarter of the Arab Chinese Cooperation and Development Association (ACCDA) to discuss energy projects that can be implemented in Lebanon.
He was received by Mr. Kassem Tofailli, the President of the Arab Chinese Cooperation and Development Association, Mr. Ahmad Bahjat, a member of the Association’s Public Relations Committee, Dr. Mary Habib, the Director of Economic Affairs at the Association, Mr. Jad Butari, the Director of Social Affairs at the Association, Mr. Elie AlMallah, the Director of Youth Affairs at the Association, and Ms. Aseel Issa, a member of the Association’s Secretariat Committee.
The meeting started by Dr. Yu with an introduction about the GEIDCO, which is a platform for global energy conversion, interconnection, and efficient distribution, as well as organizing supply and demand. It is, in fact, a modern energy system characterized by clean energy dominance, network communication, and the integration of multiple forms of energy with electricity.
Dr. Yu emphasized that the essence of GEIDCO lies in accelerating the process of replacing fuel with clean energy and clean electricity. In addition, it aims to increase the share of electricity in final energy consumption, restore fuels to their natural state as raw materials for industries, and utilize electricity to convert carbon dioxide and water into fuel and raw materials.
Dr. Yu spoke about the achievements of the organization in international cooperation and its annual projects, such as publishing over 50 books in both Chinese and English languages. These include “Crisis Solution,” “Integration of the Three Networks,” and “China’s Path to Carbon Neutrality.” They have established a general system for technology and equipment, as well as published development maps for key technologies such as clean energy generation, ultra-high-voltage power transmission, large-capacity underwater DC cables, and widespread energy storage. They have also introduced a new model for the coordinated development of the electricity, mining, metals, industry, and trade sectors. Additionally, they have built the “Energy Communication World” platform, which is the world’s first digital platform focusing on energy and electricity development. It integrates functions such as project promotion, exchange, cooperation, and information services. They have also established the “Global Energy Communication” magazine in both Chinese and English, serving as a new platform for academic innovation, talent gathering, and knowledge transfer.
On the other hand, the members of the association presented their opinions and proposals. Mr. Kassem Tofailli, the President of the Arab Chinese Cooperation and Development Association, spoke about the necessity of forming a Lebanese national committee on alternative energy and studying energy-related projects that can be implemented in Lebanon.
In conclusion, it was agreed to hold a series of meetings to establish strong partnerships and work on the distribution of alternative electrical energy throughout Lebanon, taking into consideration Lebanon’s need for updating and rehabilitating its electrical networks as an important requirement that GEIDCO and its partners can contribute to it.
